ATM RTV - What Brand

Have read all about using RTV to join glass and aluminium and now plan to
do so with a secondary and small primary. But what sort of RTV do I buy
here in Australia? Any type that is recommended for window sealant. The ATM
dictionary had this to say:

RTV. Room Temperature Vulcanization (silicone): A kind of rubber, very
strong, adheres very well to metals and glass (when
degreased), doesn't adhere well on wood when not painted.? Always use
transparent RTV, like "GE 2".

At least I know what RTV stands for now, but why should it be transparent?
