RE: ATM 6" or 8" mirror
My first mirror was an 8", and it was not a great trial (just a trial).
By the way, I really liked Neil Howard's book. It has more abrasive and
rouge on its pages than the other telescope making books I had at that
time. It is oriented to an 8", has some nifty ideas for accessories,
and I thought it communicated mirror making to me better than Thompson,
Texereau or the ATM books (I owned all of them when I tackled the 8" 30
years ago). The best help is an experienced person if available.
Have fun, I would chose the 8" but you need to think about mounting and
transporting it. If you can deal with the extra weight and cost, I
would go for it! Neither size will be a bad choice though.
Good luck,
