I have recently been playing around making real el-cheapo spectroscopes
from fragments of junkmail CD-ROMs. It is certainly possible to get
something that works after a fashion, but I need to refine the
construction process to make it easy for youngsters to have a freebie
DIY spectroscope. (At present it's mitred waste-pipe and gaffer tape --
card would make it easier to make, but it doesn't have the robustness of
the pipe)
