ATM An even crazier idea for a DEEP HACKER

This idea is even more crazy than usual, even for me!

I am looking for a deep hardware hacker who knows CD formats well.

Reason: we amateur astronomers suffer from an apalling lack of
spectrographic capability.  I suspect that it may be possible to produce
a diffraction grating on a writable CD drive.  One would have to be able
to control the positions of the bits that are blasted into the metal
film.  The cost would be modest.
