Blackwell data allow you to look at detectability as a function of

illumination?   I really must go find and read the original papers.
You are forcing me to the library <G>. Do the Blackwell data 
allow you to look at detectability as a function of size at constant
contrast difference and constant background illumination?

Can't we test your hypothesis by simply looking at the detectability of
extended objects vs point sources as a function of magnification?  Of 
course you have to use enough aperture that they still appear as 
point sources when magnified
