Sorry about the two day delay.

I put the grit on whats down.  TOT, grit on mirror.  MOT, grit on tool.
When you put grit on the tool it goes on the tile and into the channels.
Some grit will circulate in and out of the channel, but not much, thats
why cleaning your tool between grits is so important.  Some grit will stick.
I've always put a coat of urathane on the tool face (dab the tile dry) every
other grit.  This didn't work all that well.  Now, at Gerry Logins suggestion
I use spray lacquire.  I just did this for the first time this morning.
It works great.

On really deep curves with a solid tool it helps to use something a little
less liquid than water to keep the coarse grit on the tool.  I used kerosene.
Stunck, smoked, but worked.
