Dennis,

I generaly work a little long and put in more time with the mirror on top. 
I like this because I turn the mirror more often.  Also, my tool usually
weighs less than the mirror, hence I get more work done with mirror on top.

I've never noticed any side effects from working mirror on top mostly and 
every one of my mirrors has ended up with EXACTLY the focal length it has.  
Not one has every been even a little bit off.
