Paul:

Typically, plate glass has a distinct green color, though not always.
The concentric grooves may be cut in the tool to help grit distribution.
If you check out this ATM list, you will see that many people use tiles,
grooves, and other methods of building tools, to allow this.

Good luck in your venture, and remember this list, and other Internet
resources, can offer a lot of help if you get stuck

 BTW, Pyrex is not know for being colorless though.

I'd try calling them, NGW is not always known for prompt customer
service.
