I'd do a test sample of anything put on over West Sys epoxy. Some
spray paints will just bead up & not stick at all. Polyurethane
works ok. Our permanently housed 32" was finished with West epoxy,
no varnish & looks good after 8 years. Virtually no exposure to 
direct sunlight though.
