Go for the 8".
I've been working on a small mirror - actually 2 - as part of a Cassegrain
project. Except for rough grinding I have not found any aspect of small
mirror making to be faster or easier than the typical 6-8" mirror. It's
probably even harder to get a really good figure on a small mirror. Good luck.
