I used porcelein tiles (bathroom).  Cheap. No chips. Nice smooth feel as
you grind.

I did bevel the eposed edges of the tiles around the circumference of 
the tool as I thought might these edges would be exposed to greater
chip-producing forces (though I am _no_ engineer).
