Clean room!, come on guys. Wash your glass, clean your tool, press often,
and stick with it.
I grant you a segmented monolith like Keck or a multi-mirror like the MMT
before it was gutted is no mean project. Oviously a lot of planning and
disipline would be needed to build another such instrument, especially
given the ATMers pention for designing in the back of your head while walking
down the isles of the local hardware store.
Rather than tell each other whats wrong with new idea lets help with suggestions
on how to overcome dificulties we preceive might be show stopers.
I'll bet if a critical path was circulated for comment and extention most of
the incirmountable problems would disolve away. The principel workers would
get some valued assistance. And we would all feel like we contributed.
