The gold standard in ATM books is generally considered to be Texereau.
I have a copy. It is good. I've never been able to work up much in the way
of warm and fuzzy feelings for this book, but maybe it's just me.

The ATM book that I have enjoyed the most and that I have probably
consulted more than any other is Sam Brown's "All About Telescopes". The
copy I have is very old and full of plugs for products from Edmund
Scientific, the original publisher. Brown's illustrations are quaintly old
fashioned and the text sometimes sounds like a scoutmaster coaching a merit
badge candidate but Old Sam knew his optics and the book is full of tables
and advice that you will find nowhere else. I think that someone (Willmann
Bell?) bought the rights to the book but I don't know if new copies are
still available.
