Re: [ATM] The 16 inch ultrathin and ghosts
I've seen this happen with mechanical vibration in the scope. Can be caused
by wind or induced with touch.

Subject: [ATM] The 16 inch ultrathin and ghosts
I know, I know, I asked all about this with the old Coulter 10 inch. But
I thought I would share some puzzles with the list.
I was out viewing with the 16 inch over the weekend. A friend of mine and
I were running star tests on it. Between the two of us we had probably a
dozen eyepieces. While running the tests we would frequently have two
airy disks. It was the weirdest thing either of us had seen.
So last night I was viewing from the back deck and I got Saturn in the
scope and I had two Saturns. One well focused and one out of focus and
flipped 180 degrees. In the center of the view the fuzzy one was right on
top of the focused one. If I chased the view out towards the edge I could
get a bit of separation between them.
I suspect the secondary mirror needs recoated. Other ideas on this?
