One supplier (René Meyer of Long Island Indicator) who seems to know
about this particular brand (Compac) says that the older indicators
(mine is SH 524, which is older) probably use M2.6 threaded spindles,
and recommended I buy a new one to be able to purchase currently more
common metric threaded contact points. He did not seem to think the
newer metric contact points would fit, and I am concerned Richard is
stating threads for newer metric indicators. I have yet to check my
threadings. I have to go to specialty shop to get samples of smaller
metric screws.
The new guages cost 400 USD and only have 5 mm travel. The resolution
is 0.001 mm as compared to my SH 524 which is 0.002 mm. I would
prefer to find appropriately threaded contact contact point, maybe
spherical saphire or Don suggested or make one from a screw. No
hints about that yet.
