Not sure about metric dial indicators but AGD type gauges have a female 4-48
thread at the end of the spindle.  There are a wide variety of tips that can
be threaded into the 4-48 thread. see:

to be metric to inch converters for the tips. I would go with a spherical
sapphire tip.
