[ATM] Black Rouge

Quite a while ago I asked for input/advice regarding black rouge. A couple
of weeks ago I finally got to the point where I was ready and brave enough
to use it, so I thought I'd pass along my experience.
I used black rouge purchased from GotGrit (no connection, except that I'm a
customer). Yes, it is potentially very messy, as is red rouge, but there is
no need to wear gloves when you use it. It washes off skin (and glass)
quite readily with dish detergent and lots of water. However, don't get it
on your clothes, or anything you don't have to, because it would be
difficult or impossible to get out of many fibers.
All in all, I love it. We all know that when figuring, you want to polish
slowly with no jerkiness. I found that with the "black" I almost had no
choice...it was automatically smooth and slow. The speed of glass removal
was slower than red rouge, but not "glacial" by any means. A 5-10 minute
session had definite results, but things do work slow enough that there is
enough averaging to make a nice smooth surface, with little worry about
overshooting things.
I will probably use it to finish all future optics.
