Don't mean to hijack the thread but I read your website, Bob, and just finished a tracking platform that uses a simple, cheap synchronous 4W, 120vac motor (3RPH) to drive it. I found a $15, 60watt voltage inverter at Wal-Mart that powers it off a 12v battery. I didn't expect a lot but was astounded to see it track nearly perfectly over a 30 min. period on its first nite out. I get 4 to 5 hours tracking from a 7A gel cell which is at least 3 or 4 years old now.
I haven't modified the circuit in the inverter so its frequency is not trimmable (yet) but it's quite adequate as it is for visual use.
