Well smashed it up with a hammer and then crushed it up.

It doesn't work. Yeah, I tried it and creek sand and white silica sand
that they use in wall coverings. I tried the stuff you sweep up from a
metal shop floor, (grit and metal filings). I read a fascinating bit
about elutriation on this list and tried that. I have tried the shattered
remains of tempered glass, (should be harder, it really isn't).
When I am hogging I am moving glass, that's it. Just chipping it out of
the disk in a rather violent but controlled manner. I am using #60 grit
right now. Once I get the sagitta and get it worked out towards the edge
I will start using 120 and smooth it all out.
