As I can think of it, a slit only admitting the field of the 14" could
always be positioned in front of the telescope no matter where aimed, but if
you can't center the telescope and dome, the positioning may be very
irregular, and a sidereal rate of rotation won't do! In principle, a
computer could do the positioning if fed the aim of the telescope, else you
must do it manually which may detract from observation. An interesting
problem - those are the principles I could think of right away,
