The savings in baffles are greater than one or two by use of larger tube. I did full scale drawing of 6in, F/8 with 10.25in ID rear tube that shows single baffle located 19.5in from the primary. The larger tube is 28in long. No other baffles are needed. Thanks for the drawing Anthony as it makes things clearer. I think you omitted the light that can illuminate the side of the tube coming from the open end and seen from the focal plane. That is, it seems you treated the exercise as a refractor- in the Newtonian light comes not only from the mirror but from the open end as well and so complicates the situation?
I have both tubes in the attic and will dig them out.
