[ATM] metal surface on a ground ring?

Hey Everybody,
Does anyone have any experience or comments on
surfacing a ground ring with metal? I'm specifically
interested to know what drawbacks exist for using
galvanized steel flashing as an azimuth bearing
surface on the ground ring. I'd use aluminum, but
that's a BIG slice of aluminum and I don't know where
to start looking for such or if the price would be
cost prohibitive (which I suspect). Will a 45 pound
OTA riding (on roller bearings) on a 2" wide 32" OD
ground ring cut through steel flashing or lead to
undesireable indentations in the surface? I could
double up on the metal.
Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave
