Plaster of paris gets soft with a soaking in water.  However, it
won't completely go away for a long time in the water so you need
to work it out a bit.  Using the cutter you used to make the hole
(unless it is a diamond cutter) will work the surface of the POP
and make it come out a lot faster.  Start the process by hand
with a dental pick and you will be able to avoid scratching the
polished surface.
