I don't have lots of experience building solar scopes myself, but I
have talked to others that have. The most impressive white light view
of the sun I have had is through a Daley solar telescope. It is an
unobstructed design, and if you have experience making optics it's a
fun project, or so I am told.

I've viewed with Bill Benesch's scope and it is excellent.
