I find this amusing, just as I find the "hiss mount" amusing and the
"watermelon" variant. This has been a fun thread. Some people still build
100 foot telescopes. Just no other reason to make one except for fun. And
how about that "Dobson mount/telescope"?  There are a million reasons why it
is a bad idea. I hate em. It'll never take hold.

Thing is there are a few good reasons why a Dob makes sense. I got one, and
I will make another.

I don't think the McCreary mount has much original in it. I have seen
similar stuff. But then the Dobson is really just a Newtonian reflector on
an alt-azimuth mount. What is it that has made it to be the "Dobson"? One of
those synergistic things, I would say.

Now matter how many things we might find wrong with it, or what claims Dann
makes for it, if it has enough good points for enough people to find reason
to want one, they will become commonplace.

I think it is humorous. But time will tell if it is significant.

So to take it just a little bit serious....a suggestion.

Since we have taken a liquid to be part of the mount.....

A properly shaped bowl, trough or reservoir of liquid that is a part of the
platform could allow the liquid to shift distance from the axis and
neutralize the change of balance with rotation. The trough tilts as the
platform rotates and liquid flows more to one side. Proper shaping, the
trough does not have to be the same depth or width its entire length, would
shift the proper volume to add just the right amount of weight at one end as
the mount rotates. This can be calculated by the math whiz or calibrated by
trial and error. This could also be applied to neutralize change of flow
rate of liquid due to level lowering in the jug, or most other causes of
rate change except maybe wind forces on the telescope.

Look how much fun I'm having trying to figure a way to do this!

I will call this the "Squash and Slosh" variant.
