Another druther about doing something with plumbing, with respect to the
teenagers rummaging about, is the price of copper.
Here in my part of the US, it's up to $2.00/lb (usually it's around
$0.50/lb or so). Anything made of copper that's not securely affixed or
under security has become a potential target of copper thieves lately.
You'd have to also remember not give the teenagers some free copper with
your plumbing as well if you go with a hydraulic idea.
So... you're looking for a way to create a drive, that doesn't need
electricity (not available), batteries (heavy to lug about), can't use
solar panels (will get stolen), etc...
How 'bout a wind-up mechanical device - something like a larger,
longer-running version of an egg-timer? Just a random idea for thought.
