The real problem is the elimination of error in the drive period.
Yes, random error isn't perodic error but you have to remember
that if the periodic error is small enough, it really doesn't
matter as the error will stay within the ability of the scope and
camera to see it. How can you tell the difference between a
periodic or random error from the problems of seeing through the
atmosphere? Basically, you can't and when you get your error
from the telescope under a certain value, the noise of the
atmosphere becomes dominant and there's really nothing you can do
about it without going to a high speed guider (basically active
optics which the pros are starting to really use) which closes
the loop very nicely.
