[ATM] 32" F/4 update and Moore
Hi all,
I apologize if you're getting this email twice - it's hard to know
who's on what list sometimes.....
Last night was most memorable. We had first light on Bob Holmes' 32"
F/4 telescope. This telescope is intended for purely research-related
imaging use, such as gathering data on supernovae, near-Earth
asteroids, etc.
Here's a link to my main page describing the project:
http://bi-staff.beckman.uiuc.edu/~melockwo/telescopes/holmes32/holmes32.html
While that page is not new, two new pages can be now be reached from
there - a page describing my grinding, polishing, and figuring of the
primary mirror, and a second page describing our first light
experience. Links to both are marked with the word "NEW" in large red
text.
The page about making the mirror discusses BVC as a substrate and
highlights my findings and experience when working with it. (You
might remember first seeing this mirror, before I worked on it, in my
Foucault Testing Hall of Shame.)
The page about first light shows some photos of the telescope,
building, and those involved in its creation.
Additionally, last week I created a new page for planetary images
taken by my friend Dave Moore. I helped Dave out a bit with his
Cassegrain optics, and his initial results look just great. The whole
story is told here:

I hope you enjoy these pages and that you appreciate the amount of
work that has gone into both telescopes. It is wonderful to see what
people can achieve when they set their minds to it.
