Re: [ATM] Bronze reflectivity

Sonya,

I'm making bronze metal mirrors. I've been at it for
uhhh, according to the archive, oh my g-d, two and a
half years.

I cast my ninth 80mm blank on Tuesday. I broke it.
It was wedged. This stuff is so hard, it isn?t worth
working a less than perfect casting. Also, I
de-oxidized the metal with aluminum, a first, and I
want to see the grain structure. I?m about half way
through prepping a crossection for examination.

Of late I?ve been cobbling together tools. I also
finally have effective repeatable casting, sanding,
polishing and etching techniques. I?m just now
putting these into use.

The reflectivity standards aren?t set in stone, though
they may be made of stone. I agree highly inert
surfaces are preferable. If I can get a hold of a set
of NIST traceable standards I?ll use them. Shy of
that, of the things I can find data for, platinum,
nickel, and silicon-monoxide coated aluminum where the
first to come to mine when I thought, inert,
reflective and, I ready have it.

Inquiring minds do. Thanks.

Anthony
