I don't know exactly what you mean by inexpensive. A couple of people from our
ATM workshop have ordered and used filter wheels made by a company that
actually produces custom front plates for stereo and other electronic
equipment. The address of this German company is www.schaeffer-ag.de
Apparently, they also have a service for the US and Canada. There you can download
a small CAD program and design your front plate, er filter slide. You select
the base material and insert the threads you want. The CAD program will then
automatically place an order which is paid by credit card and delivered a few
weeks later.
I ordered a filter wheel with four positions (on large hole and three M48x0.75
threads for 2" filters) and it cost about 37 Euros including shipping. The
wheel can be seen here:

Such a wheel (or slide) has the advantage that you can screw your filters in
and out as you like, no need for glueing. I you want to permanently attach
your filters to the slide with epoxy, you can go for a much cheaper
alternative: Before I ordered the filter wheel, I made a dummy from 2mm Pertinax,
resin paper usually used for PCBs. If you can produce half decent holes of
1.25" diameter, such a slide will not set you back much more than 2 Euros.
