Prestressing only works well in certain circumstances.  You would need a
steel threaded rod to exert enough force to do any good.  You could gain
the same advantage by just going to a larger diameter/thicker wall
strut, and save a lot of weight.  From an engineering perspective, the
simplest solution is always the best.
