One could try to find some PVC tubing to place on the inside of the 
existing tubes, and a friction fit. What would be better, and stronger, 
would be to have someone fabricate full length "crosses"  1/8th inch 
thick of Aluminum, and friction-fit in the existing tubes. Even a simple 
piece of Aluminum Angle of the correct size, used in the same way, would 
work.  Just throwing some ideas out there, but all would work, with
