A lot of residual pits from incomplete grinding/polishing will make a 
haze too.  This is easy to check for.  Shine a bright light on the 
surface and look for what looks like a coating of dust that won't wash 
off.  Hazy atmosphere or dew on any optic will certainly do it too. 
Hold your eyepiece up to a bright light and look through it backwards. 
It is possible that using it in humid conditions has got some dew inside.
