Threaded inserts are easily installed into alum truss poles with a drill 
press.  Insert a short piece of threaded rod in the drill press chuck 
and set  the drill stops to press in the threaded inserts to exactly the 
desired depth. If the truss pole is too long to fit in the drill press, 
use a long threaded rod (available from my local nut & bolt store in 
lengths to 6 ft.) to pull the threaded insert from the other end of the 
truss tube.
