Re: [ATM] Installing Threaded Inserts
They really don't want to fit - you have to use great force, but it must
be controlled force.
I use serious leverage... find a span wide enough between two pillars or
beams to fit the length of a truss pole plus about six inches.
Thread a bolt through a 2x4 so about 1/2 inch of thread protrudes from
one face. Secure it to one pillar and screw one of the umbrellas to it,
small side out.
Place the truss pole over the umbrella and use a 6 foot 2x4 plus
whatever shim blocks you need to press against the pole from the far end
without deforming the pole.
Slowly press-fit the pole over the umbrella, adjusting the
umbrella-holder or whacking as needed with a rubber mallet if it starts
going crooked.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
This has worked for 4 scopes so far, with 1" and 1 1/4" tubing.
Be sure you have the length right before you do this, or at least be
able to trim the other end.... those suckers ain't coming outa there !
