Or better yet, particularly if you're going to use epoxy anyway, is to
epoxy a 1/4" bolt/washer/nut 'connector' into the tubing. The washer
should have a diameter just slightly smaller than the tubing I.D. An
additional benefit of this method is that, unlike with threaded inserts,
you can secure the connector to the tubing at a compound angle, for
places such as where the truss poles meet the connecting rings. This
method is also cheaper than purchasing over-priced threaded inserts.
The entire truss for my 16" scope is held together using nothing but
these epoxied connectors.
