  You have 2 main options.  One is the brute force, hammer them into the 
wood.  Second, you can use a screw or bolt to draw it into the wood.  I 
would use a second block of wood or large washer to prevent damaging the 
face of the board you are installing them into.  Also note that if you 
are removing or loosening the screw often, you may want to use some 
epoxy to hold them in place.  I have had them pop out when putting the 
bolts into the inserts.  An other method would be to sandwich them 
between two pieces of plywood.
