Dave, you really can't out Richard Richard!
LEDs, while they can be had so bright now that you can test with the ol'
eyeball in bright sunlight, really isn't where things need to be. The thing
with a camera (the way that I test now so I don't shave my eyebrows) is to
keep the camera from working the autogain function that seems to be built
into every camera is to illuminate the mirror with just enough light to keep
from the exciting of that function and LEDs are nicely suited to that by
being small and easily put places. Yes, I do have some small bulbs and if
that isn't small enough, I've seen bulbs so tiny that they'll pass through a
hole drilled by a #80 drill! They do tend to have a short life at rated
current tho.
