Re: [ATM] LED's and Diode Electronics
I'm wondering if there are several Cary Chleborads on the list or in the USA
.
I recall some not too distant experience a friend had with one of them
called Cary Chleborad , (hopefully not one and the same as the one on this
list, since this one seems to be fairly knowledgeable) who asserted he was
very familiar with making very thin high quality mirrors , then took my
friend's money and promptly vanished .
After some time , don't recall exactly how long , perhaps a half year or
more (could dig up the glorious details should anyone be interested) and
after lots of pressure, _that_ Cary Chleborad confessed he had no clue how
to polish thin mirrors and eventually returned my friend's BVC blank .
That Cary alleged the mirror was almost ready, except it had some
astigmatism due to being so darn thin , thing he was not responsible for,
since he didn't know how to polish thin mirrors, although he had alleged the
opposite in the beginning .
That Cary also seemed to be better equipped than the list Cary, since he
alleged he was measuring his mirrors with an interferometer and he was
guaranteeing at that time for all his mirrors a Strehl of better than 0.96 .
Actually he was asking my friend if 0.96 was good or more would be required
.
To make a long story short, when the mirror was returned , it was far from
being almost ready . It had a nasty rough back, looking like a cross between
a dirt road and the surface of the Moon , and a wedge of over 1.4 mm .
Testing showed it to be a very astigmatic figure _and_ close to sphere . No
parabola on the horizon .
That small time crook (keep in mind that is a different Cary than the list
Cary as far as I know ) also kept for the blank maiming as much as other
opticians charge for a complete mirror , and refunded only a very minute
amount of my friend's deposit . I don't know whether he was going to send
the blank back and make that minute refund anyway, but fact is, my friend
was guilty of some pressure and legal action threats after the half year del
ay .
Not sure if this has anything to do with LED's, and hopefully nothing to do
with the list Cary , just a funny story . The moral, better play with LED's
than pay others for knowledge they SAY they have .
best regards,
