Wow! Such negativity about a technology you've never played with.

No, I havn't.

Flex scopes are shown at star parties all over the country so go out and
look through one.

I have. Superiority over figured mirrors was not apparent.

What - is a star test not good enough for you? Your point about not being
able to test the mirror on a stand is incorrect. I am sure Bill can supply
Foucault readings if asked. Taking Foucault readings on a flex mirror is a
long involved process due to many iterative puller adjustments which are
necessary until the desired form is achieved. In the field people us a star
test to make the puller adjustments because it is fast and accurate. It has
nothing to do with not being able to take measurements.

Can you see dog biscuit in a star test? If so how bad does it have to be to
see it? How bad do zones have to be to be seen in a star test? Have you
verified by any reliable test that a flex mirror is better than can be done
by figuring.

I have asked. I was basically told that I was stupid for asking, that flex
mirrors can't be tested that way. I joke a lot but I really didn't make that
up.

People who are selling something have an interest in stressing the positive,
ignoring the negative, and in making claims that can't easily be refuted.
Its hard to refute something about which so little real data exists. Don't
expect the salesmen to provide data though. They find a questioner who does
not blindly swallow their line to be obnoxious.

A patent might be taken as a sign that someone has something they would like
to sell. If they make the claim of superiority is it too much to ask that
they show that it is.

My negativity is directed at the unproven claims. Not at whether a flex
mirror can make a usable scope. I suspect that if I made the claim that
figured mirrors are decidedly superior to flexed mirrors the web would grind
to a halt from all the replies demanding that I show proof and expressing
outrage if I did not.
