Re: [ATM] Fw: CHHU/PPC Meeting June 17th

I am interested, but cannot say I can contribute any wisdom so
much as read and get involved in discussions. With regard to
automation, I know some serious failures in these cameras, but
suspect they could be corrected for specific applications. My
autofocus camera really screws up exposure settings on close-ups
even when it is clearly focused. If I had to set the exposure
levels to what they "should" be, it would no longer be automated.
On the other hand, I would be interested in knowing about the
software used to automate this because in principle it should be
quite easy to tell the software to make specific changes to exposure
under conditions like close-ups when it otherwise fails. For astronomy,
a bigger problem is that most of the cheapies do not allow long
exposures. My canon A85 is typical in having a maximum 15 second
exposure time. Of course, these are not photometric cameras anyway,
so my overall expectations for astronomy are mainly at the level of
arts and craft, not science. It does pretty pictures I can post on the
net very well for little money.
