Either is do-able but at  f/10 the foucault shadows are very soft.  If you
go to f/12 you can use a sphere and do quite well.

My suggestion for a first scope is an 8" f/6:  Nice light gathering, tube is
reasionable, not much harder to figure than a 6" f/8.  JMHO, but I do weird
scopes so would never tell anyone not to try something they were interested
in.
