Re: [ATM] Polyurethane polishing pad



Salem Distributing sells opthamological (?) polishing
pads. Some mirror-makers use them to decrease the
polishing time. They stick them directly on the
fine-grinding tool, randomly, and polish with very
small amounts of cerium oxide. They claim it speeds up
the polishing. I don't personally see a huge
difference in the amount of time you spend, frankly.
It does leave a really cruddy, rough figure, which you
then have to fix with a regular polishing lap. It may
save you an hour or two (perhaps) when polishing a 6-
to 8-inch mirror.
