[ATM] Reflex finders
Something I have never seen discussed here is a home made reflex or
"Telrad" type of finder. My friend Chuck Lott makes finders of all types
and loves to share the technology. "Scopes are hard, finders are easy",
is what he always says to me. Here then are some photos of a couple of
current styles he is working on ...

The Lott 35 is made from a 35mm film can. The lense is a cheap double
convex lense with a fl of two inches, (50mm). He cuts a hole in the lid
of the canister and tacks it to the wooden block. The canister snaps into
the lid and provides the asimuth adjustment. Altitude is via the pivot
for the screen. I like this as there are no little bolt adjustments, a
simple twist and you are on the target.
The light source is a small red LED with a trimmer pot in line to dim it.
A piece of black plastic or vinyl tape, with a tiny from a sharp needle,
provides a simple red dot. The cost of the materials is about $3.00, more
or less.
The long wire is a variation on the above that puts the batters and
controls off of the tube onto the mount. Only the finder is on the scope
tube.
The main consideration is the distance from the light to the lense must be
set at infinity or the dot will move when you move your head. When the
distance is right the dot is always in the same place on the screen.
