Don't know what you mean by pits at the edge. If you are talking about on
the mirror surface, you will have to go way back to the early grits and
finish grinding at each stage. You also want to shorten up your stroke
while doing this and maybe also do the work with the tool on the top for
some grits to insure that the ROC doesn't change much.
If you're discussing the chamfer and the vertical side of the glass, you may
grind with some 320 or so grit as you desire to smooth out those edges. A
metal tool may be used if desired.
I will note that you should have also ground the edges and chamfer with the
same size grit that you were doing the surface with at that time.
