My 20" mirror is just about done with polishing, but the edge is still rough
with about bumps and pitts of about 40 to 60 grit.  Should I remove these?
How should I romove these?  I've tried to use a belt sander and use rough
sanding belt oif about 60 grit;

No, as long as the edge has a rounded bevel, you will be fine.
