Have you tried the little half stroke?  Start the stroke with the mirror
about 1/3 to 1/4 off of the center and finish the stroke with the mirror
centered on the lap.  Force is applied to the overhanging edge with one hand
in front of the other rather than the side by side holding that so many
people use.  The other hand merely guides the mirror and makes sure that it
doesn't tilt off the lap.
This stroke with the local polishing will take down any TDE in fairly short
order, depending upon how big and bad it is.
