While I don't know the motor, that is the way that it is done.  you will
find that the forces for trepanning to be about what the forces are for
grinding.
I'll note that you will probably want to use something finer than 60 grit
for the grit.  I use 180 grit for my work and it does fine and leaves a nice
fine surface on the edge.
Also, cut some notches in the tool so that it forces the grit down to the
bottom of the slot and that way, the grinding will go faster.
