[ATM] Turned edge - back to fine grinding?
Hi,
I am figuring an 8" F5 pyrex mirror, and I am afraid I have greated a very
narrow (1/8 to 1/4") but severe turned edge on it. Tried several techniques
to get rid of the turned edge, but after a few hours at it it has not
improved. I suspect my pitch is too soft due to the warmer weather we are
having. Planning on getting a thermometer and limiting myself to
temperatures less than 75-80 F, as well as using harder pitch (burgundy hard
from Newport Glass).
I am tempted to go back to fine grinding, probably 9 micron, for an hour to
get rid of the turned edge. And then repolishing. Can anybody recommend a
better approach? I've lost confidence in being able to polish out the turned
edge. But of course don't look forward to repolishing!
Thanks,
Jon Bishop
