[ATM] Re: Any Amateur Adaptive or Active Optics

I've been working on an Adaptive Optics system for a few years. 5 orders of correction with a 0-db bandwith of about 10 Hz and a loop time of better than 100 Hz. Things have kind of stalled as I have been busy with "life" but most of the pieces work. Science camer is based on a 1kx1k SITE chip for now.

Have learned a lot along the way. Here is my 2 cents-
 1) Corrected radius 5-8 arc-sec (yep, small) from the guide star
 2) Natural guide star is not a general purpose solution, needs laser guide star
 3) Have seen and touched a LGS system, forget about it.
 4) Below 12" fast tip/tilt is enought (maybe)

Here is the web site- http://home.comcast.net/~dac20/dac_001.htm
There has been some progress, fencing the site in central OR, working on the telescope and cameras. Will try to update the site in the next few weeks.

BTW: Adaptive optics are fast, 5 hz or better, for atmospherics. Active optics are slow, 2 Hz or slower, and correct figure and alignment of the optical train. Adaptive can do some of the job for active and tracing but that eats up dynamic range.

I will try to answer questions but you might want to email me as well as the list. I don't get to read the list as much as I used to.
